Community leaders are outraged tonight by the behavior of Louis “Baby” Ortiz, 21, who was accused of shooting NYPD police officer Kevin Brennan in Bushwick, and just got charges against him including assault and attempted murder.
Check out the video (link below). Luis “Baby” Ortiz almost seems to taunt reporters as he was taken to court to face the charges against him. At one point, he turned to supporters (reportedly there were a handful) and told them he loved them.
It all started when Ortiz fired a handgun a few times in an altercation with somebody at Bushwick Houses, on Tuesday at 9 p.m., according to investigators. Officer Brennan and another plainclothes police officer chased him into a building.
Brennan, 29 years old, got shot and the bullet lodged at the base of his skull. Fortunately, it was removed and he’s expected to survive. He’s undergoing testing now.
“Thank God he’s alive,” Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said.
Believe it or not, police say Ortiz has more than a dozen arrests and has spent time in jail. He was also wanted for questioning in a shooting on New Year’s Day.
